MISSION STATEMENT The mission of David Lipscomb High School is to serve students so that they may master knowledge and skills appropriate to them and become Christ-like in attitude and behavior. |
DESCRIPTION
David Lipscomb High School is a church of Christ affiliated, college-preparatory, coeducational day school founded in 1891. The high school consists of grades 9 - 12. Students are challenged with a college-preparatory academic schedule along with daily Bible and chapel. The student to teacher ratio is 15.1 and the average class size is 20.2. The school colors are purple and gold and the Mustang is the school mascot.

ADMISSIONS
Students of average and above average academic abilities are admitted to David Lipscomb High School on the basis of previous school records, references and an interview. Lipscomb admits students regardless of race, color, national and ethnic origin. Tuition for the 2009-10 year is $8,995. A technology fee of $200 and a textbook fee of $160 are also required. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The academic year is divided into two semesters. To graduate from Lipscomb, a student must earn a minimum of 22 credits consisting of the following: Bible 4; English 4; Math 4; Science 3; Social Studies 3; Foreign Language 2; P.E. 1; Health ½; Economics ½. The 1/2 in Economics counts toward the 3 Social Studies credits. In addition to these academic requirements, 60 hours of community service are required for graduation.
ADVANCED COURSES
DLHS offers the following Advanced Placement Courses. AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, AP Spanish Language, AP US Government and Politics, AP English Literature and Composition, AP US History, AP Human Geography, AP Psychology, AP Microeconomics, AP Macroeconomics. The following courses are offered as Dual-Credit Courses through Lipscomb University. DC Modern History, DC College Algebra, DC College Trigonometry and Analytical Geometry. The following are offered as Honors Courses. English I H, English II H, English III H, Algebra II H, Geometry H, Pre-Calculus H, Chemistry H. Additional advanced courses are offered in Foreign Languages, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Fine Arts.
TESTING
Ninth graders take the WrAP and the PSAT. Tenth graders take the WrAP, the PLAN from ACT, and the PSAT. Eleventh graders take the PSAT or SAT and the ACT. The twelfth graders take the ACT, SAT, and other college admissions testing.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Athletics: Lipscomb offers varsity teams in the following sports: Baseball,Basketball, Bowling, Cheerleading, Cross-country, Football, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Track, Volleyball, and Wrestling. Clubs and Organizations: The following clubs and organizations are available at Lipscomb: Art, Astronomy, Band, Chess, Chorus , Computer Club, Drama , Robotics, Forensics Club, French, Latin and Spanish Clubs, Home Economics Club, National Honor Society, Library Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Pep Club; Student Government, Service Club, Literary Journal, Student Newspaper (Pony Express), and Yearbook (Mizpah).
